Darn right I got the blues

Sunday, June 12th, 2005

On Thursday a friend and I went to see Keb’ Mo’ (Kevin Moore) at Villa Montalvo. It’s a beautiful estate about 3 miles from here. It was a great venue, and Keb put on a terrific show.

Three-time Grammy award winner Keb’ Mo’ and his band return to the Montalvo stage! A renowned bluesman with prolific talent, Keb’ Mo’ artfully fuses old-fashioned Robert Johnson blues with contemporary soul and pop influences. He is a truly special performer – ask anyone who has heard him live!

Nerds’ Night Out

Monday, February 7th, 2005

On Saturday, February 5th, we held a small reunion of the MIT Concurrent VLSI Architecture group. The occasion was the 14th anniversary of taping-out the Message Driven Processor.

That ambitious processor chip was designed at MIT by Prof. Bill Dally and four graduate students. We built it with help from Intel, and Intel fabricated the chips. It was an intense experience, but also a great research project.

Our recent reunion was a good excuse to catch up with people we hadn’t seen in a few years. Rich and Duke flew in from the East Coast, and Mike flew down from Seattle.

We met at the Dally Manor in Palo Alto for some reminiscing, sharing new ideas, and of course, pyrotechnics. The last time I hosted the CVA group, we performed the Strawberry Pop-Tart Blowtorch experiment.

On Saturday, Waldemar easily surpassed that standard with his spectacular flame dance, which he performed on the street to the horror of the neighbors. His next public performance will be at … Ahem … Burning Man.

For those who weren’t able to attend, I uploaded a few photos of the event.
